Last week, I started tinkering with a productivity experiment.

Or should I say… a game?

I wanted to combine two things I love: productivity + gamification. Here’s how it works:

I set a specific task.

I give myself a time to finish said task.

Then I “bet” a number of points on it.

If I complete the task within the time I promised, I earn those points.

The closer I am to predicting the time it takes, the higher the payout.

Then I just have to compare my payout for each day to see how productive I am for each day. If I fall short of my high score, it could be that I'm not getting more things done or I could be taking up too much time for my tasks.

It’s like playing darts, the goal is to hit the bullseye as often as possible.

Of course, it’s easy to game the system.

But if that happens… the problem isn’t the tool, or the game, or anything else. It’s the user 😅

Anyway, I spent close to an hour fine-tuning how I wanted the game to play out.

Tinkering with the payout rules, adding random bonuses…anything to keep things fresh each day I play. And then I realised, wait a minute…

I could just ask ChatGPT to handle all this for me!

Tracking, calculating points, summarising how efficient I was, all done for me. All I had to do was report the task and the time it took.

Damn it…give me back my entire afternoon!

Time wastage aside, if you’re interested to try it, I won’t tell you the prompts I used.

Besides, I didn’t use a single “prompt.” I just spoke to it like a person.

Stuff like:

“I want to create a game where I do this… and I get that… and you handle this part for me.”

That’s kind of how we should treat copywriting and marketing too.

Not just writing words.

But designing email strategies so it feels like we’re always having 1-1 conversations with our prospects.

Where every channel feels like a natural extension of how you’d talk if you were sitting across the table.

This doesn’t always scale for big corporations. But for solo brands, small teams, niche offers?

Writing like a friend who sees your customer’s problem and speaks directly to it goes a long way.

Especially in this age of AI, where everything sounds the same.

Now, if you want your marketing to feel more human, then it helps to treat your copy, your sequences, and even your broadcast emails as a part of your strategy in maintaining human connections.
