This week, I did 5 things that saved me time.
Not big “time savings,” but micro-savings. Meaning anywhere between 1 to 10 minutes each time.
Use a text expander to quickly type specific phrases with a shortcut. I use this when I need to search the same thing over and over again on the Customer.io platform.
Use voice writing.
Use custom attributes. Okay, this one’s a bit more technical. Since I’m sending out emails with personalization regularly, I’ve started creating custom attributes I can tag to each person, so I can segment them properly and deliver the right offers. Instead of fiddling with segments repeatedly (and risking the same mistakes), I just build it once and use it reliably.
Use SkedPal. They recently pushed out an update that acts like a productivity companion by your side, helping you stay on track while also guarding against distractions and interruptions. I’ll share more about this another time, but this tool has helped me beat inertia and get into tasks faster. Easily saves me a few minutes each time I start something.
Take a shorter walking path home. I just found a shorter route from where I usually park. It only saves me a minute, tops… but it feels good taking it. Way more exciting than describing it here 😆
Maybe these micro-savings sound lame.
I used to scoff at the idea of micro-improvements too. I’m mostly—and still am—an 80/20 kind of guy.
But I gradually realised: micro-savings add up to macro-savings.
Over weeks, months, even years, you can save hundreds of hours just by tweaking what you’re already doing.
So what do micro-savings look like in email?
In 2025, that still means templates. A GPT to write first drafts. A fixed prompt to edit your work. A reusable promotional schedule you can rinse and repeat.
Using these for myself and my clients has saved me a ton of time especially in the getting-started phase.
Will people catch on?
Well… I can’t even remember what I had for lunch two days ago! Let alone what someone said in their newsletter. Most people aren’t keeping score. With different content, your templates can run indefinitely.
It all depends on your skill in coming up with fresh hooks and offers.
My simple rule for finding micro-savings in email marketing:
If you’ve done the same thing at least three times, it’s worth investing a bit of time upfront to create something that guarantees you a micro-saving from then on.
But if you want macro-savings on your email marketing promotions, head over to:
