A couple of weeks ago, a group of Singapore marketers gathered at a bar.

They listened closely as one of internet marketing’s most infamous groups shared their best tips and explored new business opportunities.

From the pictures, it looked like a great time. I’m sure they dropped plenty of money-making secrets.

I didn’t attend even though I had the invitation link. Why?

Because the event was for the Clickbank Marketplace.

It’s a platform where creators sell digital products like e-books, courses, and software. Affiliates promote these products and earn commissions.

Clickbank became huge in the early days of internet marketing. It was a go-to for affiliate marketers and a dream for copywriters wanting to craft long-form sales pages.

Many of the products on Clickbank, especially back then, featured wild promises, aggressive sales copy, and borderline scammy offers. It earned a reputation that wasn’t exactly spotless.

And yet, they’re still around.

So I was surprised to see them hosting a legitimate networking event here, sharing insights and connecting with marketers.

(I was half imagining that the event would be hosted in a dinky, fluorescent lighted indoor room and some cheap hotel function room lol)

Clearly, they’ve done something right.

Maybe they have cleaned up their act, shed some of the shady image, and remained a popular platform for selling info products.

But when I did a quick check, I still see copy that most people would say it’s old-school, aggressive style. 😅

Even though I’m not interested in writing for that kind of marketplace anymore, I’ll admit Clickbank is still useful.

Need market research? It’s a decent starting point to study specific niches.

Want to master long-form sales copy? Clickbank is one of the best archives you’ll find.

But if your focus is email copywriting, Clickbank won’t be much help.

Email copy requires strong direct response fundamentals, but the nuances are different depending on your goals. It’s about building relationships, creating engagement, and driving action over time.
